Caroline students and staff across the county participated in a synchronized apple eating event known as Hear the Crunch! Superintendent Dr. Derek Simmons joined Ms. Bringman’s kindergarten class at Denton Elementary in an effort to help crunch as loudly as possible at the designated time of 9:15 am.

Apples are supplied by our good partners at Blades Orchards, providers of apples (and apple cider donuts!) to CCPS for six years now. They also hire students for summer work at the orchard. “This partnership has given us some of our best harvest crews ever,” owner Lynda Blades said. “They show up, work hard, laugh a little, and get their first job on the books. We get a harvest season full of new acquaintances, returning crew, and the satisfaction that we all do this together, in our county.”

Hear the Crunch is held during National School Breakfast Week and highlights the importance of the School Breakfast Program in ensuring that all children get a healthy start to their day. In Caroline County Public Schools, all students are served breakfasts daily in all classrooms through the Maryland Meals for Achievement Program.
